Patient Details:
This 50 year old woman underwent a right lumpectomy for DCIS along with sentinel node biopsy, simultaneous with bilateral mastopexy (breast lift). She subsequently underwent post lumpectomy radiation to reduce her risk of local recurrence. She is seen before, and 9 months after her surgery. The effects of radiation cause some skin tightening and slight edema, which results in a slight elevation of the entire breast, including the nipple. Ultimately one can expect slight shrinkage of the radiated breast as well. This discrepancy can sometimes become more evident over the years. This patient was extremely pleased with her result.
